In 1995 Close Joint-Stock Company «Nikolayev Potassium Terminal» was established in City of Nikolayev; subsequently the Company was reorganized into «Sea Specialized Port «Nika-Tera» Limited Liability Company — the first private terminal in Ukraine constructed without participation of the state investments.

To establish the terminal there was chosen the undeveloped swamp area in the proximity of «Zhovtnevaya» railway station. At that time the station was underused with unused capacities available. In order to be sure the project to be implemented was safe, the specialists visited City of Hamburg where in the centre of the city there was the similar terminal and made themselves sure that it was possible to construct the potassium terminal in City of Nikolayev.

In 1999 the quay of 333 m in length was put into commission.

In 2000 the checkpoint through the state boundary for international transport was set up.

In 2001 the first stage of the railway of 4,2 km was put into commission. In the same year the first vessel was loaded. Namely, on December 26, 2001 the Turkish vessel arrived in the terminal for loading and then she sailed away from the terminal laden with 6 200 tons of potash chloride.

On September 20, 2002 after the first testing of the terminal, the specialists considered and corrected the detected shortcomings and then the grand opening of «Nikolayev Potassium Terminal» took place.

Initially the terminal was designed to transship 1 800 000 tons of mineral fertilizers annually. But with the further development the cargo turn-over increased of up to 4 000 000 tons. Soon it became required to transship other types of stores. In 2003 the grain complex construction was commenced.
In 2007 in consequence of reorganization, pursuant to decision of the founders CJSC was transformed into SSP «Nika-Tera» LLC. This was the first private terminal in Ukraine constructed on the undeveloped area without participation of the state investments.

In 2007 at the port the work on construction of the second start-up facilities for storage and transshipment of grain crops were completed; 12,3 ha of operational waters, quay №3 and 1200 m of railway track were put into operation.

In 2008 construction of the second stage of the grain complex was completed, in 2009 — construction of quay №10 and 3000 m of railway track were completed. In 2010 –the anchoring berth was constructed and carbamide complex and administration building constructed was commenced.

In 2013-2015 «Nika-Tera» implemented the project on construction of the new grain elevator of silo type— 18 silos of capacity of 170 000 were constructed.

In 2013 the port put into commission the new area on transshipment of carbamide furnished with floor storage warehouse of 50 000 tons capacity. Currently these facilities are used to handle grain crops. Also two marine terminals were constructed: one for transshipment of bulk and piece cargoes and another for the grain crops.

In 2015 «Nika-Tera» maintained its activities on the available technologies modernization and implementation of the new ones, the storage spaces expansion and the stores handling process improvement.

Aspiration system reconstruction was performed in the port – the new dust control system was applied to the preceding technological processes resulting in the employees working conditions improvement, it also increased the environment protection level and decreased the stores losses.

Besides, in 2015-2016 by purchasing the new equipment (loaders, transporters, sampling instruments, mobile belt conveyors «Telestack», mobile bucket unloaders «Sennebogen 835» and many other items) «Nika-Tera»`s terminal performed the port`s retooling and modernization

In 2016 Sea Port «Nika-Tera» completed the scale project on construction of own rail infrastructure. The project was implemented within framework of comprehensive Programme on the terminal capacity increase. The Company constructed and put into commission 9 additional railway tracks of length exceeding 3 km as well as 15 railroad switches and the new special weighing complex.

Thus, the port possessed the railroad complex including dead-end tracks, approach tracks and inner tracks of total length exceeding 22 km and 8 locomotives with the right to rail on «Ukrzaliznytsya»`s railway tracks.

Also the port increased the quantity of own parking lots and set-up 4 entries-exits for rolling stock providing prompt and high-quality performance of cargo handling.

Besides, in 2016 the grain crops cleaning and drying system was put into commission ensuring resulting the grain is refined directly at the port and consequently out customers` commodity can reach the export quality.

Year by year the marine terminal modernizes its infrastructure and puts into commission the new machinery, therefore since 2016 the port capacity has been enabling to simultaneously load with grain crops 3 vessels of length of 230 m using 3 loading machines of capacity of up to 1500 tons per hour.

In the port`s territory there was set-up the port`s own certificated cereal laboratory which precision of measurements is of 100%. This is evidenced by results of 7th round of interlaboratory comparison of the measurements results under the Programme of «Physicochemical Parameters of Grain Quality».

In 2017 the new area of cargoes (№4) was put into commission specializing exclusively in liquid bulk cargo transshipment, namely vegetable oils of sunflower and other crops such as rape and soya.
The transshipment throughout capacity is of 500 000 tons of liquid bulk cargoes annually. The oil-transshipment complex includes 3 technological parks consisting of 18 storage tanks of simultaneous volume of separate or shared storage of 33 000 tons.

As of today «Sea Specialized Port Nika-Tera» LLC is the Company furnished with significant material, intellectual and financial resources. All that enables to render high-level services, develop the Company with adherence of the environmental legislation`s existing norms and requirements and solve social problems and properly compete with other ports.
